About the Event:
For the fourth consecutive year Capital newspaper organizes a conference dedicated to the health sector and the health problems in Bulgaria. The health economy keeps on growing despite the crisis. It is health services and pharmacy that feature cutting-edge technologies, advanced scientific innovations, top skills of doctors, medical teams, pharmacists and experts. Can Bulgaria rely on the healthcare sector as a major economic growth factor, and how? How can we attract investment in the health sector, develop health and spa tourism, medicine manufacturing, clinical trials, education and development and what is the return? These are the highlights of the conference’s new edition in 2017.

  • Dr Mihail Tikov

    Dr Mihail Tikov Businessman, owner of "Bulpharma" Ltd, University General Hospital "Sofiamed" and a number of healthcare facilities in the country

    Dr. Mihail Takov graduated the Medical University of Plovdiv in 1988. In 1992 he started his own business in healthcare and pharmacy. In 1998 he established and became manager at Bulfarma, a company focusing on drug distribution for the Bulgarian and international wholesale markets. He has also a master degree in Health Management. Since 2000 Bulfarma has been investing in healthcare in Bulgaria. The latest, most successful investment Bulfarma made in 2012 in University Hospital Sofiamed.
  • Dr. Krasimira Chemishanska

    Dr. Krasimira Chemishanska General Manager of Amgen Bulgaria

    Dr. Krassimira Chemishanska is the General Manager of Amgen Bulgaria since the opening of the affiliate in 2009. Prior to her appointment at Amgen Bulgaria, she worked at different management positions in AstraZeneca Bulgaria, the last one being Marketing Director.
    Dr Krassimira Chemishanska graduated Medicine from the Medical University in Sofia and has acquired a MBA in General Management from the City University of Seattle and a Master Degree in Business Administration from the International Business School.
    Since 2013 she is member of ARPharM Board, and since 2011 member of the AmCham Board of Directors.
    In 2015 she is elected for a President of American Chamber of Commerce.
  • Dr. Maurice Smith

    Dr. Maurice Smith External Scientific Affairs Fellow, Philip Morris International R&D, Neuchatel, Switzerland

    Maurice completed a PhD degree in Medicinal Chemistry and is a diplomat in Toxicology of the UK Royal College of Pathologists. After post-doctoral positions in the Institute for Cancer Research and University College Medical School in London, he joined the UK Department of Health Toxicology Unit at St. Bartholomew’s hospital (London) in 1981 as Senior Biochemist. He joined Unilever Research in the UK in 1982 eventually becoming Toxicological Food Safety Program Coordinator. He moved to the Netherlands joining the Unilever Health Institute as Regulatory Affairs Manager in 1998 working on nutrition and associated health claims. He joined PMI in 2006 to work on the assessment of novel products designed to offer reduce risk alternative products for adult smokers.
  • Dr. Stanimir Hasurdjiev

    Dr. Stanimir Hasurdjiev Chairman, National Patients’ Organization of Bulgaria (NPO)

    Dr. Stanimir Hasurdjiev is one of the founders and current Chairperson of the Bulgarian National Patients’ Organization (NPO) – the biggest patients’ umbrella organization in Bulgaria. Dr. Hasurdjiev has devoted himself to patients’ advocacy and defence of patients’ rights. As of May 2013, Dr. Hasurdjiev is a board member of the European Patients’ Forum as well as a member of several other regional and international organisations and networks. He is one of the initiators and founding members of the joint initiative of the European Patients’ Forum and the Bulgarian National Patients’ Organisation – the Patient Access Partnership – a multi stakeholder platform for finding innovative solutions to reduce inequities in access to healthcare in Europe. Dr. Hasurdjiev serves as a Secretary of the National "Health Partnership" which was officially launched in March 2015 as a permanent consultative body to the Bulgarian Council of Ministers.
  • Deyan Denev

    Deyan Denev CEO ARPharM

    Mr. Deyan Denev is heading the Association of Research-based Pharmaceutical Manufacturers in Bulgaria since October 2003. He has a legal education from Sofia University and is an expert in pharmaceutical legislation and pharmaceutical policy. As Director of the association he is leading the advocacy activities of R&D pharmaceutical industry in Bulgaria on key issues regarding pharmaceutical policy, regulatory environment, intellectual property, pharmaceutical market development. He is a member of the Supervisory Board of the National Health Insurance Fund on behalf of the Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria since January 2014.
    Between 2008 and 2013 he was a representative of the pharmaceutical industry in the Transparency Commission, which is an appeal body for all piecing and reimbursement decisions in Bulgaria. He is a member of the National HIV/AIDS Council at the Bulgarian Government and a member of the CEE Task Force of EFPIA (European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations).
  • Stephen Posey

    Stephen Posey Chief Executive, Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

    Following 20 years of experience in the health service, spanning commissioning, provider and strategic roles, Stephen joined Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as its Chief Executive in November 2016. Previously Stephen was the Deputy Chief Executive at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust where he successfully delivered a £150 million investment programme to reconfigure acute services across east and north Hertfordshire to improve clinical outcomes and enable the development of specialist services. Stephen has extensive experience of service transformation and delivery demonstrated by a strong track record in the delivery of lasting strategic and service change within a complex and challenging environment. Stephen has a particular interest in developing overseas partnerships and building on Papworth’s unique history of international collaboration, he has in recent times, established direct relations with a number of international hospitals in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. In addition to his role as Chief Executive Stephen is a Board Director at Cambridge University Health Partners, a partnership between one of the world's leading Universities and three NHS Foundation Trusts. Stephen is currently overseeing the development of a £165 million state-of-the-art hospital to replace Papworth’s existing facilitates which is due to open on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in 2018.
  • Dr. Slaveyko Djambazov

    Dr. Slaveyko Djambazov Managing Director, HTA

    Graduated English language boarding school (1995), medicine (2001), healthcare management (2007), MBA (2010). Dr Djambazov is a serial entrepreneur and was part of the team, which built the first GMP-certified pharmaceutical plant in Bulgaria (2004), a network of hospitals for the treatment of myocardial infarction, saving thousands of lives (2008), then a network of chemotherapy clinics, treating >30% of cancer patients in the country (2013), currently involved in the improvement of the outpatient care and mass introduction of telemedicine (2015 - now). Dr Djambazov is involved in more than 20 other companies as a co-founder, investor, advisor or friend. He teaches healthcare management and introduces health technology assessment (HTA) in Bulgaria, co-authors textbooks and scientific papers, frequent public speaker.

    Head of the department "Diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with viral hepatitis, porphyria and hepatic pathology in transplantation" at the University Hospital "St. Ivan Rilski "- Sofia.
    Prof. Krasimir Antonov graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Sofia in 1986. From 1986 to 1988 he worked as a general practitioner in Studena. From 1988 to 1997 he was an assistant at the Department of Internal Medicine at the Medical Faculty in Sofia. Since 1992, he had many international EASL specializations in Athens, Copenhagen, Lisbon, Naples, Prague. Since 2004 he is Head of the department "Diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of patients with viral hepatitis, porphyria and hepatic pathology in transplantation" at the University Hospital "St. Ivan Rilski "- Sofia. With his thesis on Chronic Delta Hepatitis he becomes PhD in 2000. Prof. Antonov had written 78 scientific articles and over 100 reports for Bulgarian and international magazines. He is member of the Bulgarian Society of Gastroenterology and the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL).
