The event

For the 12th consecutive year Annual Investment Summit will focus on the latest deals on the local market, and also will shed light on what’s happening on a larger, regional scale. The conference provides opportunities to both funds and strategic partners, investors and entrepreneurs to discuss current issues, find solutions and drive the market up. The event also is an excellent platform for networking and deal initiation.

  • Valeri Petrov

    Valeri is primarily in charge with investment opportunities in Bulgaria and the Western Balkans. Prior to that, he was Partner at Bancroft Private Equity and, before joining Bancroft, he was Investment Director with Global Finance, running the company’s activities in Bulgaria.     Filip Genov is a senior banker with 20+ years of executive experience in Bulgaria and numerous other markets, where he initiated and created a wide array of innovations, new business lines, products and companies in the financial services area. In 2013 he became the first Eastern European manager to be elected to the Executive Committee of the Factors Chain International, being responsible for the R&D and innovations.     Kamen Kolchev is the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors of ELANA Financial Holding.  He founded ELANA in 1991. Originally, the company started with brokerage services and 25 years later this is a group of market leaders in trading on financial markets, asset management, EU funding consultancy, financial services for farmland investment, renewable energy projects, etc.  Kamen Kolchev had been actively involved in shaping the newly emerged local financial market in 1990s by providing expertise for the development of the new legislation and regulatory bodies. He currently is involved in policy work groups on finance and energy with the Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria, after several years being member of the Board of the organization. He used to chair the Bulgarian Association of Licensed Investment Intermediaries from founding the organization till 2008. 
    Kamen Kolchev graduated Mathematics at Sofia University and has further specialized in capital markets and corporate governance in New York and Prague. 
  • Piotr Mietkowski

    Piotr Mietkowski is a graduate of Economics and Finance at the Université Paris Dauphine. He completed postgraduate studies in the Institut d'études politiques de Paris. He has over 20 years of corporate finance experience and has successfully advised numerous diversified clients (e.g. corporates, private equities, State entities, entrepreneurs) across wide range of transactions, both in private sector and in public space.

In his previous position at the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Slovenia, Matej headed the establishment of the Slovenian Sovereign Holding and was actively involved in the structuring of the Slovenian "bad bank". He previously co-led the restructuring & winding down of a Frankfurt-based bank, was Head of treasury of a boutique investment bank and involved in PE and hedge fund deals. Matej has served as the President of the Supervisory Board of SID Bank, member of the Supervisory Board of Cinkarna Celje and President of the Supervisory Board of Triglav. He holds a Bachelor degree in banking from Ljubljana University, and an MBA from Mainz University.

    Markus Piuk is partner with schoenherr and has more than 12 years of experience as a lawyer, mainly focusing on Corporate/M&A and infrastructure (including energy) related work in South East Europe. He specialises in capital markets, M&A, finance, tax law and compliance & white collar crime. Within schoenherr, he has a major contribution to the development of schoenherr’s network in South East Europe and today is in charge of the coordination of the offices in Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania, Serbia and Turkey. Markus has also been recently advising the Bucharest Stock Exchange on the introduction of a derivatives market. Further Markus has been advising the Ministry of International Economic Relations of the Republic of Serbia on the Law on Financial Leasing. More recently, Markus has been advising the Bucharest Stock Exchange in relation to the introduction of a derivatives market. Markus holds degrees from the University of Vienna (Mag. iur.), the University of Virginia (LL.M.) and ESADE Business School in Barcelona (MBA). He is admitted to the bar in Austria, Romania, Moldova, Bulgaria and Croatia. Markus is a frequent speaker on conferences regarding investments in South East Europe. Markus has published a number of articles on the laws of Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia and the Republic of Moldova in Austrian and international legal journals, including eastlex (Manz Verlag, Vienna, in German language). Most recently, Markus has authored the chapters on Romania and Serbia in Handbuch der Internationalen GmbH-Rechts (Zerb Verlag, Angelbachtal, in German language).

    Mr. Elvin Guri is an investor and entrepreneur with a successful track record in financial services. He is currently CEO of River Styxx Capital, an investment and advisory firm. In addition, Mr. Guri is the CEO of Empower Capital Advisor, which will manage the 15 mln. euro co-investment fund as part of the Jeremie programme. He started his career as Auditor at Price Waterhouse in Sofia. Starting from October 1996, he spent more than five years with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), both in London and in Sofia.  Mr. Guri co-founded JetFinance International (JetFinance), a consumer finance institution, in 2001-2002. Post JetFinance, Mr. Guri has been involved, as an investor and as a mentor, in financial services and in technology ventures.

  • Larisa Manastirli

    Larisa Manastirli Director for Bulgaria, EBRD

    Larisa Manastirli is the EBRD Director for Bulgaria since December 2015. Ms Manastirli has been with the EBRD for over 11 years where she worked in the Banking department on projects in the financial, infrastructure, agribusiness and power sectors and played a leading role in developing and implementing the special EBRD products and programs for the early transition countries. In 2012 she joined the Black Sea Trade and Development Bank where she worked for five years on transactions in the financial sector, private equity and infrastructure in 11 countries of the Black Sea Region (Albania and Caucasus, Bulgaria, Greece, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Turkey, Ukraine). During this period she was also sitting on advisory boards of a number of regional private equity funds. Larisa returned to the EBRD in early 2012 to lead the Bank’s office in the Kyrgyz Republic. In that capacity, she managed to significantly strengthen relationships with the government and development partners, raise the profile of the office and launch new initiatives as well as lead the team to deliver record high volume and number of investment operations. In her current position Ms Manastirli is responsible for the EBRD’s investments and operations in Bulgaria. Larisa has BSs from the Moldovan Academy of Economic Studies and an MBA from the University of Wales. She is a member of ACCA since 2003.
  • Hristo Stoyanov

    Hristo Stoyanov Business Development Manager, CEE, European Investment Fund

    Hristo Stoyanov manages the business development activities of the European Investment Fund in Bulgaria. He joined the EIF office in Sofia as mandate manager in 2011 responsible for the operations of a Bulgarian holding fund providing EU Structural Funds through SME-focused financial instruments including guarantees, start-up accelerators and venture capital. He is member of the Board of Directors of JEREMIE Bulgaria – investment company, acting as an umbrella fund with diversified portfolio of private equity funds and risk-sharing commitments to local credit institutions.
     
  • Yordan Zarev

    Yordan Zarev Investment Manager, NEVEQ

    Yordan is an investment professional with experience in M&A and corporate finance. He began his career in Forem Consulting, where he worked on buy and sell-side transactions. After an internship with the investment banking team at HSBC (London), he joined EuroHold Group, a publicly listed financial institution in Bulgaria. He ultimately became the head of investment banking of Euro-Finance Bulgaria, part of EuroHold Group, the most established local investment intermediary and led several strategic acquisitions, capital raisings, public listings, divestments and deal structurings in a variety of sectors. Before joining NEVEQ as an investment manager, he headed business planning and development at Philip Morris International (Bulgaria affiliate). 

    Yordan holds a BA in Business Administration from the American University in Bulgaria and is fluent in English.
  • Evgeny Angelov

    Evgeny Angelov Chairman of the Bulgarian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association

    Evgeny Angelov is Chairman of the Bulgarian Private Equity and Venture Capital Association. He is currently an investor and works actively with regional equity funds, investing in growth companies. Previously, Evgeny was the Economic Advisor to the President of Bulgaria and the Deputy Minister of Economy. His focus in the public sector has been on economic, investment and innovation policy formulation and implementation. He supervised over 50 state-owned companies and was responsible for the €1.2bn Operational Programme "Competitiveness". He served as Chairman of the Board of both the Bulgarian Energy Holding and the National Electricity Company. Concurrently, he was the Head of the Investment Board of JEREMIE Bulgaria, a €350mm fund of funds, which provides equity and debt financing to start-ups and SME's. He was also an initiator and board member of Sofia Tech Park. Prior to his public sector roles, Evgeny was Director at Trigranit Development Corporation, a leading real estate development company in Central and Eastern Europe. Before that he held various positions at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London, where he structured, negotiated and executed debt and equity transactions in the financial services, pharmaceutical, cement, real estate and chemical industries in ten Central and Eastern European countries. Evgeny holds an MBA degree from the Harvard Business School.

He currently serves on the Board of Directors of two portfolio companies, including Bulgarian confectionary manufacturer Prestige and is an observer on the board of Tallink.Prior to joining TRG in December 2013, Mr. Staniczek was a member of the Citi Venture Capital International (CVCI) investment team from 2004. He was involved in investments in National Logistics Company in Russia (board member), KazInvestBank in Kazakhstan (board observer), Sanitas in Lithuania (board observer) and Amoun in Egypt. Mr. Staniczek previously worked at Stephens Inc. in Atlanta between 1999 and 2002.
